So
For those who don’t know, I am hispanic, and I watched InuYasha with the spanish dub.
I am also aware that most of you are not hispanic so this is a nice opportunity to do something different, I don’t want to only do Incorrect Quotes.
So I wanna share some fun facts about InuYasha in this part of the fandom just in case someone is curious.
So let’s start with some fun facts about InuYasha’s Spanish dub!
- The most obvious, we don’t call Kagome by that name (I do but I am bilingual so that’s ok), because Kagome unfortunately sounds a lot like Cagome (PoopingIAm) so the dub took the perhaps wise decision to rename her Ahome Higurashi.
- Miroku’s Wind Tunnel was also renamed in the dub, though I don’t know the reasons. Here, the wind tunnel is named Agujero Negro (Black Hole, yes).
- Jaken and Sesshomaru share the voice actor. (So the guy is just talking to himself)
- Jaken also instead of just calling Sesshomaru… Amo/Señor Sesshomaru (Lord Sesshomaru), he instead likes to call him… Amo Bonito (Handsome/Pretty Lord).
- Shippo’s voice actor is mostly known for also playing kid Goku’s voice.
- In The Final Act, almost everyone from the original dub cast returned, except for Naraku.
- Tessaiga was renamed Colmillo de Acero (Steel Fang), Tenseiga is Colmillo Sagrado (Sacred Fang), and Bakusaiga is Colmillo Explosivo (Explosive Fang), the only sword that kept its japanese name was Tokijin.
- Jaken refers to Inukimi as Doña Sesshomaru (Ms. Sesshomaru).
- Also, in the spanish part of the fandom Inukimi has been nicknamed Irasue (I have no idea where that name came from, I think they got confused with Urasue, the witch who resurrected Kikyo). I will never use that dumb nickname.
- Due to censorship I guess, the demons/yokai initially were never named as such. They were called monsters or beasts. Until The Final Act, at least.
- Kouga and his clan of yokai wolves are named… Werewolves…
- NO ONE from the original cast was hired to reprise their role in Hanyo no Yashahime. And a lot of them are very pissed about it since they WANTED to be back. (The original dub was made in México and HNY’s dub is made in Argentina).
- Kagome only says Sit! During one episode, the rest of the series Kagome says ¡Abajo! (Down!) to send InuYasha to the ground.
- The Shikon no Tama is known as Perla de Shikon (Shikon Pearl).
- Rin (here known as Lin) doesn’t speak in third person.
- When Sesshomaru talks in third person (not very often) refers to himself as El Gran Sesshomaru (The Great Sesshomaru…). I am aware in English he instead says I, Sesshomaru.
- The Meido Zangetsuha was named Ataque de la Luna Infernal (Hellish Moon Attack).
- Kikyo’s VA (Georgina Sánchez) was asked in a live event to dub the scene where Treekyo talks to the Yashahime Trio, she did. However, she ended with the hilarious “Listen to me, Moroha, your mother should’ve been ME”
